TSC-500-ZD Hybrid

Area of Application

The TSC-500-ZD Hybrid is a low energy rockfall catchment fence that has a hinged connection to the base plate and so requires upslope retaining ropes to support the post head. Its design is based on the ETAG 27 tested TSC-500-ZD system with adaptations to allow it to function as a hybrid/attenuator.

Hybrid Functionality

Hybrid systems are designed to absorb rockfall impacts in the upper superstructure, reducing the energy as much as possible, before allowing the material to progress downslope to a lower point where maintenance can be carried out more easily.

Rope Guidances

The upper bearing rope is led through a rope guidance that is integrated on each post head. The guidance is designed to be robust and with no movable parts in order to ensure longevity and zero maintenance.

Integrated Ladder

Each post has an integrated ladder composed of rungs spaced at 50 cm intervals in the webbing of the I-beam. The ladder assists in the installation of the fence as well as routine inspection and maintenance.

Retaining Rope Anchorage

The post head is secured using retaining ropes that lead to an upslope anchor in the middle of the field on either side of the post. This gives side-to-side stability of the post as well as the ability to lead forces into the ground. One anchor is shared between two posts. For this system, there are no brake elements on the retaining ropes.

Lateral Anchorage

Lateral anchoring or internal anchoring of long sections of fences are achieved normally with one anchor having the main bearing ropes attached with brake elements, thimbles and shackles.

AVT-phx Brake Element

The AVT-phx series of brake elements are steel coils that unravel when a force is applied. The gauge, width and number of coils can be specified in order to control the amount of energy absorbed and the total displacement. With no moving parts, these are some of the safest and most reliable brakes in the industry.

Omega-Net

The primary net material used in Trumer systems is called the Omega-Net. It is a steel cable net made from spiral rope that has thick individual wires to resist abrasion. The strands of rope are pre-bent into arcs resembling an omega shape and then woven together to make the net. This process yields an extremely strong net with high flexibility and energy absorption characteristics.
