Area of Application

The TS-2000-ZD is a medium energy rockfall catchment fence that has a hinged connection to the base plate and so requires upslope retaining ropes to support the post head. It has been 1:1 scale tested according to the Austrian WLV guidelines. It fully meets the requirements for Consequence Class 3 of Appendix E of the ONR 24810 “Technical protection against rockfall – Terms and definitions, actions, design and construction, and monitoring and maintenance” and carries the highest performance rating available according to the Austrian Department of Avalanche and Torrent Control’s rockfall catchment fence type list. As such, it may be used on projects with all levels of risk.

Rope Guidances

The upper and lower bearing ropes are led through a rope guidance that is integrated on each post head and base plate. The middle ropes are attached to integrated post guidances. The guidance is designed to be robust and with no movable parts in order to ensure longevity and zero maintenance.

Integrated Ladder

Each post has an integrated ladder composed of rungs spaced at 50 cm intervals in the webbing of the I-beam. The ladder assists in the installation of the fence as well as routine inspection and maintenance.

Base Plate

Hinged systems have independent base plates that are connected to the post using a pin. The lower bearing rope is led through a guidance attached to the base plate having a curved surface to assist deflection of the rope and a pin to keep it in place. The base of the post is secured to the foundation/subsurface through two rock or soil anchors, the front compression anchor oriented perpendicular to slope while the rear tension anchor is at 45 degrees to the base plate.

Lateral Anchorage

Lateral anchoring or internal anchoring of long sections of fences are achieved normally with two anchors having the main bearing ropes and the middle ropes attached with brakes, thimbles and shackles. Brake elements on the middle ropes allow for more elongation than the upper and lower brakes to maximize energy absorption while maintaining a large residual height.

Retaining Rope Anchorage

The post head is secured using retaining ropes that lead to an upslope anchor in the middle of the field on either side of the post. This gives side-to-side stability of the post as well as the ability to lead forces into the ground. One anchor is shared between two posts. For this system, each retaining rope is fitted with a brake element to help absorb energy and reduce the forces on the anchors.

AVT-phx Brake Element

The AVT-phx series of brake elements are steel coils that unravel when a force is applied. The gauge, width and number of coils can be specified in order to control the amount of energy absorbed and the total displacement. With no moving parts, these are some of the safest and most reliable brakes in the industry.

Omega-Net

The primary net material used in Trumer systems is called the Omega-Net. It is a steel cable net made from spiral rope that has thick individual wires to resist abrasion. The strands of rope are pre-bent into arcs resembling an omega shape and then woven together to make the net. This process yields an extremely strong net with high flexibility and energy absorption characteristics.
